THE STORY
Diario Libre was launched in early June with a clear purpose: to inform the Iglesia department about everything happening in its local area, the province of San Juan, and the country. This project was the brainchild of two lifelong friends, Maxi Chavez and Diego Varela, who, unemployed and motivated to make a difference, combined their talents and passions to bring this digital news outlet to life.
Maxi Chavez, responsible for the technical aspects and the development of the digital infrastructure, and a passionate photographer and filmmaker, contributes the visual creativity and technological support that ensures Diario Libre remains accessible and at the forefront of news. Meanwhile, Diego Varela, a local journalist with academic training from the National University of San Juan (UNSJ), is in charge of research, writing, and direct contact with the community to guarantee serious and rigorous journalism.
This unique combination of skills and experience has allowed Diario Libre to grow rapidly and carry out important coverage, such as the historic arrival of the Solidarity Train that departed from Haedo to Caucete after 50 years without passenger service in the region, participation in international mining events such as Arminera 2025 and Argentina Cobre 2025, as well as coverage of the opening of the Agua Negra Pass, among many others.
With just one year in circulation, Diario Libre is already positioning itself as a media outlet with a promising future and great ambition. Maxi and Diego, two young friends with a hunger for growth and a strong work ethic, continue working to solidify this publication as a leading source of reliable, high-quality information, committed to their community and to the truth.
